Pulwama, Jan 03 (KNO): The residents of Beighpora village in Awantipora hamlet of South Kashmir's Pulwama district here have demanded commissioning of a transformer installed in April this year. The residents of the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are facing hardships due to erratic power supply as the transformer from where they were getting supply is critically overloaded. They said after hectic efforts, a new transformer was sanctioned for the area and was installed in April last year, but due to unknown reasons; the authorities are yet to make it functional. Villagers further added that they are suffering in absence of the power supply amidst the bone chilling cold. Zahoor Ahmad, a local resident said that they want an investigation into the matter to ascertain as to why this transformer hasn't been commissioned for a long time now. He said that as board and university exams are about to start but in absence of proper electricity, the students have been suffering. Gh Mohammad, another local, said that if this transformer is commissioned soon, the villagers will get scheduled supply. He said that they have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups. “Despite assurances, nothing has been done in this regard,” he said. Meanwhile, the villagers urged the higher ups to look into the matter and make the transformer functional so that the locals won't have to suffer anymore. They have sought the attention of MLA concerned and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard. Meanwhile, an official of the PDD said that transformer will be commissioned in the next few days—(KNO)
